![]() The more flowing tiles of water/magma you have, the more of an FPS drain it is. ![]() I guess this is obvious, but using a low population cap is one of the biggest FPS benefits. It also adds a great deal of content, but you can disable it with the installer. The changes it makes does help FPS a great deal. It removes some things, and greatly simplifies others (ie: one type of leather instead of a different one for each animal). DF won't let you go lower than 2x2, but I think you can go down to 1x1 with dfhack. This is a must if you are on an older slow computer. Done with shift-(u,m,k,h) on the embark screen. This is done by exploiting the fact that doors don't deconstruct when their adjacent (constructed) walls disappear.Ĭhange your embark to a smaller size (default is 4x4). If you need doors in really high traffic areas, you could even go with three across. The same goes for long up/down stairways: use at least 3x3. Even two wide will cause considerable slow downs with enough dwarfs trying to get by each other. Make sure to use at least three tile wide hallways everywhere. Turn off temperatures/weather in the df init file. Those last two don't work well with grazers. Kill all free roaming pets, confine them to cage(s), or tie them up with ropes spaced two free tiles apart, so the animals can't interact with one another. If you are on a laptop, make sure your processor is set to use full power in your power/battery options. I'm just going to copy and paste, since I typed this out 5 days ago in this thread: There are some other things you can do to improve FPS though. Yes, having an amazing system does help immensely.
